FAQs: Ukulele / Bass / Guitar Sing-Along
Do we need to bring our own ukulele or guitar for the class?
For your trial class, you are welcome to use one of our in-house instruments to see if it’s the right fit. Once you decide to enrol for the term, we highly recommend purchasing your own instrument. Having a ukulele or guitar at home is essential for practice, which is key to making progress and enjoying the learning process! Our instructors can offer great advice on where to find affordable, quality instruments here in Penang.
What is a good age for my child to start? Should they learn ukulele or guitar first?
We welcome children as young as 5 years old! For our youngest students, we usually recommend starting with the ukulele. Its smaller size, softer nylon strings, and fewer strings make it much easier for small hands to manage, leading to quicker results and a wonderful confidence boost. As they grow, the skills learned on the ukulele provide a fantastic foundation to transition to the guitar.
Are these music classes only for kids? I'm an adult beginner!
Not at all! Our music classes are for everyone, and we have many adult beginners from all over Penang join us. It’s never too late to learn an instrument. We offer one-on-one lessons that are perfect for adults who want to learn at their own pace in a relaxed, encouraging, and private setting. It’s a fantastic way to de-stress and pick up a new creative hobby.
Where exactly in Bayan Lepas are you located? Is it easy to get to?
We are conveniently located in the heart of Bayan Lepas, making our music centre easily accessible for families in the vicinity, including Sungai Ara, Relau, and Batu Maung. Our central location means less travel time and more time for music! Feel free to call us for the full address and directions.
What will my child actually learn in the first few lessons?
In the first few lessons, the focus is on fun and fundamentals. Students will learn how to properly hold their instrument, the names of the different parts, and how to play their first few basic chords. We quickly move on to simple strumming patterns, and our goal is to have every student, kid or adult, playing a simple, recognisable song within their first month.
How do your classes help with more than just playing an instrument?
While learning chords and songs is the main goal, the benefits go much deeper. Our “Sing-Along” approach builds confidence in self-expression. Learning an instrument improves focus, discipline, and hand-eye coordination. For our young learners in Penang’s competitive school environment, it’s a creative outlet that nurtures brain development and provides a lifelong source of joy and accomplishment.
